Bathroom Trends of 2013

December 17th, 2012 by steph

Whether you’re wanting to add a few stylish updates, or planning a full bathroom renovation, there are trends to be set, and trends to be followed. If you’ve been wondering what bathrooms will be wearing in the year of 2013 – then you’ve come to the right place, here is the forecast for the hottest bathroom trends of 2013.

Tiles set the centre stage

If you decide to use tiles on your walls, floors, or as splashbacks, eye-catching tiles are going to be taking centre stage in 2013 trends and bathroom designs. 2013 notes that large format tiles are becoming increasingly popular and tiles which emulate other materials such as stone, concrete or wood are on high demand. If you want your tiles in keeping with the new trends try tiles with a large prints, which will create a feature for your white pristine bathroom. Porcelain tiles still remain the tile choice for the top-end bathrooms, while state-of-the-art printing techniques have allowed ceramic tiles to hold their own place.

Lighting fashions

Dim lighting and dingy bathrooms are ghosts of the past. The upcoming 2013 bathroom trends are to fill your bathroom with as much light as possible, preferably natural sunlight. This is easily done by installing larger windows and sunroofs. If a sunroof isn’t an option, all the manmade light should be soft and diffused. A well-lit will offer an inviting and happy atmosphere.

The futures bright, the futures…?

With whites, off-whites, browns, beiges and greys being the order of the day, nothing has really changed. However, these are now complimented with vibrant colours, such as fresh lime green, oranges, even icy blues, in small quantities. Small accessories such as rugs, towels and soap dispensers are a great way to cheaply add this little bit of modern fashion without making extreme changes.

Spa-like experiences

The quest to be the trend setter of 2013 is set, and that’s to emulate spa-like luxuries in residential bathrooms. What is considered a five star luxury in the past, has now become a commonplace expectancy  Under floor heating, waterproof speakers, ambiance lighting and Jacuzzis, oversized shower heads now hold a place in 2013’s luxury bathrooms. A modern bathroom is just not complete without these added little luxuries.

The ultimate way to tie together the latest bathroom design aspects for 2013 is by following the growing trend of creating your very own spa-like experience. Bathrooms are no longer just an area of convenience, where you can wash and ready yourself for the day ahead, but remember, this is your space, so chose your tastes and the style you like.

Decorating your Bathroom for Christmas

December 6th, 2012 by steph

There are a lot of different and inexpensive ways to turn your loo into a Christmas themed toilet. All it takes is a little creative energy and bits of Christmas spirit. Here are a few quick ideas for you to choose from, use all of them if you wish, which will make your bathroom be the leading star in this years Christmas crowd.

Fake snow doesn’t have to be tacky

It’s as simple as that. You can purchase cans of ‘snow’ pretty much anywhere, especially in craft stores. For most, fake snow is seen as tacky, but a first class tip is to not go overboard. With the nozzle a few inches away from the surface, gently spray a boarder around the edge of your mirror and any windows.

Christmassy smells

Purchase a candle – or two, which scream out Christmas. There are loads of seasonal scents available, such as apple and cinnamon, black berry, toasted hazelnut and Christmas cookie etc. Place the candle, or the candles, around your bathroom – especially your bath, to create a relaxing seasonal atmosphere.

Christmas themed towels and rugs

Choose a design for your towels which speaks out loud about Christmas, pick a style which will best suit your bathroom. Handing these on your towel rail and placing a rug at the foot of your bath will welcome Christmas into your bathroom in a sophisticated simple manner. If your bathroom wouldn’t suit a Christmas pattern you can try green and red bathroom towels and rugs which will invite Christmas in a bold and bright way.

Poinsettia

Nothing screams “Merry Christmas!” more than a Poinsettia. You can buy them from most flower shops, especially around Christmas time. Placing a Poinsettia on your windowsill will encourage Christmas festivities, and it will last you many years to come, which means the Poinsettia can be welcomed into your bathroom each and every year without racking up an expensive bill.

Accessorise

You can either purchase a soap dispenser or soap with a Christmas scent. Not only is soap and soap dispensers inexpensive and easy to find, they are great of bringing a little festive cheer into your bathroom, without the accessory looking or feeling out of place. You can try and buy them in a festive colour such as ivy green or berry red, this way not only will they smell festive they will look Christmassy also.

The bathroom has to be one of the hardest places to decorate, especially when it comes to Christmas, creating a seasonal atmosphere without it looking tacky or over the top can be difficult, but adding little sprinkles of Christmas throughout is perfect for a festive space, ready for any visitor.

Choosing the Perfect Taps

November 12th, 2012 by steph

Choosing the taps for your bathroom can be an extremely difficult decision. Taps can often bring the decisive, finishing touch to the overall look of the room, which makes it vitally important that you make the right choice. The problem however, is that there are so many different factors to consider, that creating the right combination becomes much harder than you’d first expect. Not to worry though. Here you’ll find a selection of easy to follow tips, which will help you to make the right choices and add the perfect finishing touch to your bathroom décor.

Shape

The shape of your bathroom taps can have a massive impact on the rooms’ appearance. There is a wide selection of tap shapes; from square to spherical and round to semi-circular. The best way to optimise the style of the room through tap shape is to match them up with the mirrors. So, for example, if you have square mirrors purchase round taps, if you have circular mirrors purchase circular taps etc. This will add a feel of stylish consistency to your bathroom and allow both the mirror and the tap to blind into an overall interior design.

Bathroom Décor

The key to choosing the perfect tap lies mainly in the décor that surrounds it, meaning that modern taps suit a contemporary bathroom décor, whereas traditional taps suit a classical décor. So, for instance, a sleek, metallic style within the bathroom would be complimented perfectly by a curved tap with a chrome finish.

Ease of Use

Alongside style, the perfect tap must also be highly functional. This is hugely important, as you want the equipment in your bathroom to easy and quick to use. Taps that require twisting may be difficult for some people, like the elderly, to operate. Therefore, taps that offer easy use become a massive part of the decision process. You can purchase taps with an easy lift lever, or, if you have an ultra-modern bathroom, get rid of the handle all together with a sensor operated laser tap.

Flexibility

Continuing the need for functional taps, flexibility is another important factor in selecting your perfect tap. Some taps are fixed in one set position. Whilst this will probably not be a regular issue, there will be times when its lack of movement will restrict what you can achieve. Taps that swivel can be invaluable, especially if it is installed in a tight space, like a cloakroom suite, where there is little room to manoeuvre.

Keep these tips in mind and not only will your decision making process be a lot easier and quicker, you will also have the tap that is perfect for you, both in style and convenience.

Creating an Illusion of Space in the Bathroom

November 5th, 2012 by steph

Unless you live in a custom built home with a luxurious walk-in wardrobe, balcony and games room you probably wish your bathroom was bigger. Without knocking down a wall or adding any additional square footage, you can feel a little less cramped with our top Tapshop tips, which will make your bathroom feel a little less claustrophobic.

Adding the Right Coat of Paint

This is where most people go wrong. Pale, light colour schemes tend to give the illusion of a larger area of space. We’re not saying that the whole room has to be pristine white, with white fixtures and fittings, especially to you trend followers. Add a little ‘zing’ to your bathroom by adding bright accessories or a bright feature wall. Try a lime green that will create a fresh, airy atmosphere, or a pastel green to create a cool serene sanctuary. These colours and designs will create the illusion of space with only a paintbrush and a pot of paint.

Cutting Back on Things which Stick Out

You would be surprised at how the smallest piece of furniture or accessory can suddenly make your room seem to shrink. Removing wall shelves and replacing them with a streamlined cabinet will dramatically transform the size and feel of the room in a matter of seconds. Of course, you may need some of the pieces for comfort or uses, but if your bathroom looks a lot bigger without them, try and think of some other ways to supply the space you need.

Say Goodbye to Visual Obstructions

It may have seemed a good idea at the time, but without you even knowing, a frosted glass style will have made your room look a lot smaller, by obstructing your view of the room. Replacing frosted glass or shower curtains with clear glass will create a continuous streamlined look, making your bathroom look a lot larger. Eliminating shower doors altogether and replacing them with clear glass which can be pushed back would be the easiest and most effective option for this design.

A neat, tidy and clean bathroom will always look larger and more spacious than a cluttered, dirty one! Spend a little time organising storage areas and make the most of what you have. Just because your bathroom is small doesn’t means it has to look small. Show off your sense of colour and style in a bathroom which makes the most of its limited space.

Redesigning Your Bathroom for a New Season

June 28th, 2012 by steph

The fashion world is undoubtedly dominated by an ever changing group of ideologies based on an innumerable set of factors, which range from celebrity dress codes to designer opinions and even to current events and popular cultures.

Far from the unpredictable nature of the celebrity world of fashion where cuts, patterns and colours can go out of date in a week and styles can shift based on newly popular cultures, there is one ever potent factor which all stylists and fashion dedicated souls can rely on and follow. It is a shift which is as reliable and unavoidable as our seasons, and it is in fact these very times of change which create its rules and time frames.

The seasonal changes impact the fashion world as much, if not more than culturally relevant celebrities who must follow them. Autumnal and winter shifts bring darker shades and palettes into the spot light which become a fashionable excuse to wrap up warm and create a cosy atmosphere at home. Summer and spring in turn create their own colour codes, both for clothing and for in-house decor and decorating fashions.

Although it often hardly seems appropriate to even consider redecorating your entire house based on seasonal changes there are some rooms which can benefit from a season change each year. In particular the bathroom of any house hold can seriously benefit from a seasonal re-vamp based on the shifting temperature, light levels and time of year.

In winter and autumn darker shades help to retain actual warmth and create a cosy more home like feeling within what, let’s admit is one of the more personal rooms in any household. Where as in spring and summer a bright and reflective colour scheme helps the whole room seem a little bigger and will create a sense of space during a generally hot and humid seasonal change.

As well as the colour schemes and palettes there are other options to take into account which can make a huge difference to the feel of your bathroom during seasonal changes. For example the style, shape and colouring of your shower enclosure can have a huge effect on the size, functionality and stylistic preferences of your bathroom.

A bright chrome skeletal structure with a set of fully transparent glass panes can give a great, bright and open feeling during the summer and spring months. Where as a darker metallic frame and slightly more translucent set of panes can help to keep that more personal, warmer feeling during the colder and often more body conscious months of autumn and winter.

Remember it’s not only the colour and cut of your clothes which seasonal fashions should affect, it’s also the colour schemes and styles within your own home. Changing just a small number of simple things within certain rooms can really help to create the right sense of welcoming warmth, or open spacious light you need to maintain for the next two seasons.
