Liven Up Your Bathroom

September 4th, 2010 by Mark Farrell

Carrying on from the theme yesterday about updating your bathroom I thought I would add a few more ideas for you. Decorating your bathroom can be fun with the right ideas. If you have an original style and a great eye for design then put those qualities together and get busy decorating. For those of you that have a knack for taking simple everyday objects and finding something even bigger and better to do with them then here is where you will find some great ideas to run parallel with your already out of the box thoughts. For those of you that aren’t too good with decorating and you need some inspiration to allow you to think outside of the box look no further, your idea companion is here.

Mirrors are an average everyday part of life. You use them to primp yourself and get clean and proper for the day ahead and the day that has just passed. Mirrors are found in just about every human’s bathroom. They are located everywhere, on the walls, the medicine cabinet above the toilet.

You can be sure that when you step into someone’s bathroom you are sure to find a mirror. What about a mirror on the ceiling? You’ve heard of mirrors on the ceilings in bedrooms, well what’s wrong with one in the bathroom? If you have a luxury bath that’s even better for those romantic nights. If you’re a lover at heart you can see why a mirror can be inhibiting yet unique. If you aren’t too much of a lover but you just want to be unique then a mirror on the ceiling will definitely turn heads.

Have you ever been in the bath and thought “I could go for a drink right now.” The water’s warm, the mirrors are fogging up and it’s comfortable yet dry and you don’t feel like hopping out of your relaxing bath to go to the kitchen and get a drink. Well if you invest in a mini refrigerator you won’t have to move.

College kids have them all the time in their dorms and some men have them in their so to speak “man caves” so why not have one next to or close enough to your bath or shower where drinks are ready at any time but you won’t have to worry about getting electrocuted.

Steps are great and if you have a split level home steps can add to the flooring plan. Why not add steps in your bathroom. It will make you feel like you are walking into a grand room. You can have your choice of them going up or down which can also elevate your bathroom. Steps will make a great addition to your bathroom.

Spice Up Your Bathroom

September 3rd, 2010 by Mark Farrell

If you are looking to spice up your bathroom a bit or completely redesign it then little added touches can make your bathroom look like new. Many people don’t think about it, but little touches as far as shower curtains, rugs, mats and flooring can help add some colour and zest to your cleansing area. If your bathroom is small, medium sized or large, small touches will still make a difference. These accessories are also inexpensive so your pockets will not feel a dent and neither will your budget.

Start out with something simple such as a colorful shower curtain. Make sure to choose earthly or fluorescent colors. Peach, tan, gold, coffee, cream, mauve, wine lavender and rose are great colors that add a hint of elegance to your bathroom area. Once you’ve picked the color that you desire, shop for that color shower curtain.  On the other hand you could always choose something similar to the below:

If you can’t find the colour that you want try a neutral color such as white or a dark color like black or chocolate brown, these colors go perfect with the colors mentioned above so it’s ok to blend them together. Now you can move on to bath rugs. Try not to over accessorise with rugs but one or two will be perfect for comfort as well as style. Make sure to try and match your curtains, rugs and other accessories with the same color scheme or two colors that blend well together.  Or not its up to you as you would probably find it hard to get a blood stained rug (or would you) Blood Stained Bath Mat

Now that you have chosen your rugs and shower curtain it’s time to pick out some toilet seat covers and some other little bath and body things to keep the ambiance flowing, in your bathroom. Toilet seat covers aren’t a necessity, however they are inexpensive, they add color and they keep your toilet heads from getting dirty faster and hold less germs. Aside from this toilet seat covers are convenient and hassle free.  OK so I couldn’t find a blood stained toilet seat cover, which did surprise me especially when I found the shower curtain and mat so instead ive gone for ducks.  Ducks are good:

You can also add hand towels that match the colors of your rugs, curtain and seat cover. In addition to the items that were previously discussed you can add little things to accent your bathroom. Antibacterial soaps that have a perfume type smell are always great for family and guests, scented lotions such as lavender, coconut, musk etc are great and provide a touch of class. You can also add perfumed soaps if you want to shake things up a bit.

Entertain Yourself Whilst In The Bath

September 2nd, 2010 by Mark Farrell

While most men would enjoy the comfort of sitting in front of a television while bathing, women can also embrace the enjoyment of watching television while making themselves sanitary and serene. Ladies, this is not just a male enjoyment, it can be fun and enlightening to you as well. Believe it or not a television can make your bathroom look more current and can turn your bathroom into an entertainment space all at the same time. You can live like the stars do without having the bank account.

A nice flat screen television about 22 to 36 inches can be a perfect fit for a drab bathroom. You can watch whatever shows you like and if you want to get creative add a DVD player so that you can watch movies or music videos dependent upon your mood. Who says that your bathroom is strictly for getting clean!

When choosing a T.V. to fit into your bathroom don’t try to overdo it and get a big expensive television just find something suitable and inexpensive that fits your taste. Remember that the T.V. is only used to enhance your bathing experience. Once you’ve found your perfect television of which there are many specifically designed for the bathroom, you will need to mount it on your wall.  Bathroom televisions come with strict installation instructions that have to be followed exactly for obvious health and safety reasons.  Another word of advice would be to avoid installing your television directly over your bath or shower (just incase).

You want to be pretty cautious with installation, mounts can and will be sturdy, but if you can avoid an electrical accident then take the correct precautions and do so. Once you’ve chosen the correct wall for your new television you should find how high or low you want your T.V. to be. You don’t want to mount the television too high in case it falls you still want to have a television. You also do not want to have to strain your neck while in the tub or shower just to view your favourite movie or show. Do not position the T.V. too low or else you won’t be able to see it and you run the risk of running into it every 5 minutes.

Once you have found the correct positioning, angle and space of where you want your television to be, it’s now time to mount it. Make sure that the screws and mount that you have purchased are the correct fit and all it takes is the correct drill and the proper installation of the screws. Once the screws have been installed, you should check to make sure that the mount is stable and then you can place your T.V. on its new holder.

See we are not just a pretty place to buy your Bathroom Taps from we also like to offer up some useful advice. Although Tapshop and Bathshop don’t currently stock Bathroom Televisions we will be doing in the future so please keep checking back.

What Flooring Should I Go For In My Bathroom?

September 1st, 2010 by Mark Farrell

Changing the bathroom flooring is a great way to give your bathroom a new look. Bathroom flooring can give your bathroom a sense of style and a sense of comfort. There’s something about the look of new floors that can change the entire feeling of a bathroom.

There are many types of flooring that are available to consumers, but thinking of you and your family’s needs you have to choose what flooring is right for you. Think about your style, do you like bright colours or earth tones? Figure out if you are a flower lover, marble design lover or do you just like straight coloured flooring? Whatever your taste make sure that you are happy with the flooring that you choose. Since there are so many flooring options around here is a list of some popular flooring that other homeowners are talking about.

Hardwood floors have become a well known favourite for bathrooms. Most people think they are only for hallways, living rooms and dining rooms but that is false many consumers are becoming hip to hardwood bathroom floors. This type of flooring looks beautiful and is solid. Just make sure that you install it or have it installed properly with no cracks or small crevices because moisture can damage it. Most people use this type of flooring in a half bathroom.

Laminate flooring is a popular choice for bathroom flooring. This flooring comes in 5 types oak, pine, stone, travertine and slate. These types then come in different colours which opens up the range immensely. Laminate flooring is also probably the easiest flooring to clean. With laminate remember that it also has a wood base so take the same precaution as you would with hardwood floors and make sure that it is installed properly.

Stone flooring can be a great flooring choice, however make sure that your finances are up to fit the style because this flooring is very expensive. Stone flooring provides options such as marble, granite and limestone, it’s not easily damaged and it’s easy to clean. Most consumers love it because it lasts well beyond its years. Just make sure to wear socks or slippers when entering your bathroom because this flooring can be cold. Not to mention ensuring that the floor that you are putting it on is capable of withstanding the weight.

Ceramic tile flooring is the most popular choice for consumers by far in today’s market. This flooring looks great, feels great, is inexpensive to the wallet and is waterproof. Don’t forget the easy cleaning that comes with it as well. You can’t go wrong with this flooring and it’s easy to install.

That’s four extremely popular choices for your flooring. Some expensive and some much more affordable. Whatever your choice is all of them will transform your bathroom completely.
